Discover the
Wild Atlantic Way
Explore this spectacular scenic coastal route and discover some of Ireland’s most beautiful landscape along the Bay Coast
Achill Island
Of course, a trip to Westport wouldn’t be complete without a road trip to Achill Island. Only an hour drive away, this route offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes. However, the most beautiful view has to be Keem Bay, one of Ireland’s most beautiful beaches. This must-see beach can be found at the very end of the route. Indeed it’s so beautiful one may think you are in the Caribbean. If you’re lucky you may even spot some basking sharks swimming in the bay. For the more adventurous, there is also a cycle route from Westport to Achill which can be done within a day. If interested, make sure to check out our “Greenway Cycle & Stay” package.
Connemara
Get ready to embrace the best of the West. Woodside is ideally located just a 30-minute drive from the Connemara. Once described as “a savage beauty “by Oscar Wilde, this beautiful region is a must-see. From the dramatic yet stunning views of Doolough Valley to the scenic beauty of Ireland’s fjord, Killary Harbour, there is so much to see. Killary is a centre for shellfish and mussel farming, where you can also enjoy a cruise along the fjord. The Connemara is also home to some of Irelands most iconic sights such as Kylemore Abbey and Ballynahinch Castle. Likewise, the Connemara National Park is another must-see where visitors can follow four different trekking trails. Lastly, Clifden is the perfect place to enjoy splendid views of the Wild Atlantic Way while driving along Sky Road.
North Mayo
There are some real gems in North Mayo and part of the Wild Atlantic Way that you don’t want to miss. Firstly, Down Patrick Head where you can connect with nature and tranquillity of the majestic cliffs. Secondly, North Mayo is also home to the famous archaeological site known as the Ceide Fields near Ballycastle. Thirdly, Ballina’s world-famous river called the Moy which is renowned for the salmon fishing.
